As we say goodbye to morning swims in the river, picnic lunches in the grass, and late summer nights under the stars, it’s easy to get caught in a whirlwind of emotions over the littles gearing up for another year of school. Yet for myself (and many working parents I know), this is also a time to look forward to getting back a little space for ourselves as we welcome the school week routine.
Don't get me wrong; I adore my children. They are the reason I work so hard. But, let's face it, the summertime slam is not for the weak of heart, especially when juggling the responsibilities of running a business or working full-time.
From the outside looking in, one might assume that the life of a mompreneur (jury’s still out on whether I like being called that) is this seamless balance between work and family. However, beneath the surface lies an eternal struggle to find a breath in this catch-and-carry world. Summers, in particular, are like an obstacle course of time management, where every day brings new challenges, and productivity becomes this elusive unicorn I hold onto with all my might — while also washing a stuffed unicorn my daughter kicked through the yard.
Back-to-school season signals a reawakening of sorts, a moment to refocus on the things I do for me, my passions. As much as I relish the unstructured days spent adventuring with my kids, the prospect of reclaiming precious hours to dive into designing new products feels like a homecoming for the soul.
Back-to-school means sitting down to have a whole train of thought … can you imagine?! Gone are the impromptu playdates and "I'm soo bored" interruptions. Instead, finishing up the off-to-school morning rush means that next comes a few hours of focus—a commodity more precious than gold in my world.
Embracing the back-to-school season isn't just about rediscovering my professional passion; it's also about instilling a sense of structure and balance in my children. They witness firsthand that life is an intricate dance of responsibilities and aspirations where chores and dreams intertwine.
Perhaps this yearning for routine is simply a desire to fuel the journey ahead. There is a lot of growth on the horizon for my human babies moving on to another grade, as well as for my business baby looking to expand its offerings.
So, as summer ends, I welcome the back-to-school season with open arms. The prospect of my children’s journey aligning with my own fills me with energy. Hustle is our vibe this fall. And with each passing year, as we all grow and flourish, I love knowing that together, we are crafting a life built on love, hard work, and adventure.
